Back pain is common during pregnancy. Almost every pregnant woman gets involved, especially in the second half of the pregnancy. Often a different attitude is the cause, but sometimes also a bladder infection. Back pain early pregnancy can be caused by miscarriage, implantation or an EUG.
Pregnancy problems
Being pregnant is a dream come true for most women, but it also brings with it the well-known pregnancy ailments. These are ailments and complaints caused by the pregnancy. Known ailments are nausea, especially in the morning. But urinating more often, bloating, blood loss and sometimes also back pain are part of it. Does back pain really belong to the pregnancy? Sometimes, but sometimes back pain is also caused by something that has arisen as a result of the pregnancy.
Back pain due to implantation
When the egg is fertilized, it is transported towards the uterus. During this trip the egg cell is already sharing, this process continues quickly. When the egg has arrived in the uterus, she settles there in the uterine wall. This implantation can be associated with blood loss. Some women feel the implantation clearly as some abdominal cramps or pain low in the back. This pain does not last longer than two days.
Ectopic pregnancy or EUG
Sometimes the egg does not settle in the womb, but in the fallopian tube, the ovary, the cervix or the abdominal cavity. This can happen when the egg cell lingers there due to a blockage. The egg cell cannot continue and will continue to grow in, for example, the fallopian tube. In the beginning, this is not a problem, but when the egg cell continues to divide it grows enormously fast and eventually, there will be a shortage of space in the fallopian tube. A dangerous situation, because the fallopian tube can tear through. An ectopic pregnancy must be immediately discontinued to limit the damage. No fruit could survive outside the womb, no matter where it is. Only the uterus is suitable for growing a fruit.
An ectopic pregnancy cannot be recognized at the beginning. The pregnancy test is positive and all pregnancy ailments such as nausea are present. Later there may be bleeding, abdominal pain and dizziness. When there is a bleeding in the abdominal cavity, the blood stimulates certain nerves, causing pain in the shoulder or the back. Often the pain is felt on one side. An acute internal bleeding can be fatal, therefore an ectopic pregnancy should be discovered as soon as possible.
A miscarriage also causes pain in the back
In case of a miscarriage, blood loss occurs and abdominal cramps. These abdominal cramps can also radiate to the back. This pain is caused by the contraction of the uterus. A miscarriage is most common during the first three months of pregnancy, often noticeable from four weeks of gestation. Usually, a construction fault or sometimes a deviation from the mother is the cause. When the pain and bleeding are severe and persist for a long time (longer than one week), it is advisable to visit the midwife or doctor.
Heavier from the belly
During the second and third trimester of pregnancy, the abdomen becomes visible and becomes heavier. If you continued to walk upright, you would jump forward under the weight of the stomach. Automatically you will pull the back slightly to compensate the weight. This can cause back problems, especially when the back is pulled very hollowly and little rest is taken in between. The complaints consist of pain in the lower back or in the middle of the back. Pain in the upper back is often caused by a tense posture such as the pulling up of the shoulders. Pelvic instability can also occur. There is a pain in the pelvis that can radiate to the back. These complaints can worsen, especially with prolonged standing.
Cystitis
Pregnant women are more likely to develop a bladder infection. You have to urinate more often and there is a burning or painful feeling during and just after urinating. Sometimes there is also back pain that is caused by the bladder infection. Not every woman has the same symptoms. Back pain that can not be explained can, therefore, indicate a bladder infection. A urine test can determine this with certainty. A bladder infection is treated with an antibiotic treatment that is safe for the baby.
Leaning back vertebra
Deviations in the spine or pelvic pelvis appear much earlier during pregnancy. Not everyone has a perfectly straight back. When the vertebra is a little crooked, it can cause back pain during pregnancy. A physical therapist can help with the correct posture during, but also after the pregnancy. If the back complaints continue to continue after the pregnancy, it makes sense to have a look at it.
